About Us
“A Day in the Cooperage,” the 13th mural in Cuba, Missouri’s Viva Cuba mural program, celebrates the legacy of McGinnis Wood Products and the enduring craft of barrel making. Founded in 1968 by Leroy McGinnis as a small stave mill, the company grew into a world-renowned producer of premium white oak bourbon barrels, with its products used by distilleries across the globe.
The mural captures the skill, precision, and tradition involved in cooperage—the art of crafting barrels—while also honoring the family behind the business. In 1987, McGinnis expanded into full barrel production after acquiring specialized equipment, helping transform the company into a major player in the industry. Today, the operation spans multiple facilities, employs over a hundred people, and sources logs locally from within a 100-mile radius of Cuba.
Sponsored by the McGinnis family in celebration of their 50th anniversary, the mural reflects not only a successful business, but a deep commitment to community, craftsmanship, and family values. It stands as a tribute to how a local operation can grow into something globally recognized while remaining rooted in the traditions of the region.
