About Us
Sitting at the corner of Main and Front Street in Galena, Kansas, the Front Street Garage is one of the oldest surviving structures along Route 66 in the area, with roots dating back to 1896.
Originally built as the Moeller and Smith Building, it began life as a lumber yard and construction supply business serving the growing community. Over time, like many buildings along the Mother Road, it evolved with the needs of travelers, eventually becoming a service station and garage during the early days of Route 66.
By the 1930s, the building was operating as A.C. Bradshaw’s Garage and later sold Phillips 66 fuel, helping motorists navigate one of America’s most iconic highways. Traces of its past can still be seen today, including faded ghost signage and architectural details that hint at its long and varied history.
Located directly across from Cars on the Route, this weathered building has become a popular photo stop for travelers who appreciate the quieter side of Route 66. It stands as a reminder of the businesses that once kept the road moving and the stories still waiting to be rediscovered.
