About Us
If you’re traveling Route 66 through Galena, Kansas, make sure to stop by and wave hello to Big A our Texaco Giant Muffler Man standing outside Gearhead Curios.
Unveiled in September 2024, Big A is a modern tribute to the rare Texaco “Big Friend” figures from the 1960s, when larger-than-life service station attendants helped define the golden age of American road travel. Very few originals still exist today, making this custom version a unique addition to the Mother Road.
Standing 22 feet tall and weighing around 1,200 pounds, Big A was created by artist Mark Cline of Enchanted Castle Studios. With a bright green Texaco-style uniform, a wrench in hand, and a friendly wave to passing travelers, he captures the spirit of Route 66’s roadside history. His custom look (including a white beard and facial features inspired by owner Aaron Perry), gives him a personality all his own.
As the only muffler man along Kansas’ stretch of Route 66, Big A has quickly become a must-stop photo opportunity and a new icon of the route.
