About Us

At the Joliet Area Historical Museum, we’re dedicated to celebrating the people, places, and stories that define our city’s rich past and vibrant present. Located in a beautifully restored historic church in downtown Joliet, our museum offers interactive exhibits, engaging programs, and special events that connect visitors to the heritage of our community, from its industrial roots and cultural milestones to its enduring place along America’s most famous highway, Route 66.

Beyond our main galleries, we also steward several important historic sites, including the Old Joliet Prison, Joliet Iron Works, and Route 66 Welcome Center, each offering unique opportunities to explore the city’s history up close. Whether you’re visiting for the first time or rediscovering the stories that shaped Joliet, we invite you to step inside, look around, and experience history in a whole new way.
