About Us

The Route 66 Rocker, officially known as the World’s Largest Rocking Chair, was built in 2008 beside the Fanning Outpost as a classic roadside attraction in the spirit of Route 66. Standing over 42 feet tall and constructed from welded steel, it was designed specifically to break the Guinness World Record for the largest rocking chair—and it succeeded.

Originally, the massive structure was built to actually rock back and forth, a requirement for the record. However, the motion proved to be more intimidating than enjoyable, and the chair was eventually secured in place. Today, it stands as a permanent, larger-than-life landmark that draws travelers from around the world.

While visitors can’t typically climb into the chair, there is one special exception each year during “Picture on the Rocker Day,” when a lift is brought in to give people the rare chance to sit atop the giant seat. Covered in traveler stickers and towering over the landscape, the Rocker is a perfect example of Route 66’s tradition of bold, quirky, and unforgettable roadside attractions.
